Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has been featured in films and TV, and in stage productions, is known for portraying Teri Joseph, the fiery attorney featured in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. In the years following her marriage, she is also known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. Her acting talent was evident from childhood. In a Maryland high school contest gave her the best actress award. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria from the time she was seven. She'd been exposed to a lot of travel and other cultures since a young age. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor trained and eventually became a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school, where she was not just a dancer but also studied theatre. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would become her profession. She had danced for over a decade. When she graduated from high school she was awarded a full grant to attend the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. Contractor landed her first role after a year of university. The show she played in 92 performances received acclaim from Canadian theater critics. Contractor accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. There are only eight males and four females accepted for a 20-week intensive course of classical theater.
